慈照寺（じしょうじ）は、京都府京都市左京区にある、室町時代後期に栄えた東山文化を代表する臨済宗相国寺派の寺院（相国寺の境外塔頭）。
山号は東山（とうざん）。開基（創立者）は、室町幕府8代将軍の足利義政、開山は夢窓疎石とされている。夢窓疎石は実際には当寺創建より1世紀ほど前の人物であり、このような例を勧請開山という。寺紋は五七桐[1]および二つ引両[2]。
足利義政が鹿苑寺の金閣舎利殿を模して造営した楼閣建築である観音殿は銀閣、観音殿を含めた寺院全体は銀閣寺として知られる。
Ginkaku-ji (銀閣寺 Ginkaku-ji?), the "Temple of the Silver Pavilion," is a Zen temple in the Sakyo ward of Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the construction that represents the Higashiyama Culture of Muromachi period.
Ashikaga Yoshimasa initiated plans for creating a retirement villa and gardens as early as 1460;[1] and after his death, Yoshimasa would arrange for this property to become a Zen temple.[2] The official name is Jishō-ji (慈照寺 Jishō-ji?) or the "Temple of Shining Mercy." The temple is today associated with the Shokoku-ji branch of Rinzai Zen.（wikipediaより）
